Sanne Bijvoet has been an intern at A Lab since September. During the event producer studies at the ROC Amsterdam Zuid, she learns all the ins and outs one needs to set up an event. What really makes Sanne happy is organizing an event with a team: “You're working so hard towards that together and seeing the end result is pretty cool. That's when you really see what you've built and how proud you can be of that.”
Sanne dreams of setting up her own company in the event world later. She is still exploring what kind of events she wants to specialize in. At A Lab, she organized, among other things, the Christmas party for the entire community and is already learning a lot that will help her later. “I feel very comfortable at A Lab and I get a good chance to develop. I'm excited to learn a lot more here!”
Suzanne de Bekker and Natasja Bode have recently been training on the walls of A Lab's courtyard. They are founders of Ropes Aligned - Vertical Dance Theater Amsterdam, a unique vertical dance company that has been pushing the boundaries between dance, architecture and nature since 2022. Using climbing and abseiling techniques, they make performances in public spaces and in nature. In addition to this successful company, they set up the Ropes Aligned Foundation to promote vertical dance as an art form in the Netherlands. Ropes Aligned combines dance theater, sport climbing and location theater into an innovative and impressive mix that can be both intimate and grand. From short, impactful performances at building openings to full-length productions at special locations.
When they saw the patio when they walked in spontaneously because of a dance performance in a building nearby, Natas and Suus both thought: what a wonderful place this is to train and rehearse. A place with height and a good wall in a quiet environment is hard to find. A short conversation last summer, quickly led to Ropes Aligned moving in and becoming part of the community. At the Christmas party, Ropes Aligned gave the opening performance. “Through hell and high water, we tried new things and were given the freedom to challenge ourselves as artists. The energy, creativity and inspiration that A Lab offers make it a perfect place for us to work on new creations. We hope to make many more great new productions here and are always open to collaborations, big and small. If anyone ever wants to try vertical dancing at A Lab, this is certainly possible, you know where to find us!”
